Time for some narcissism!

Tue Jun 26, 2007, 4:39 PM
What do you like the most about my art? What do you like the least? Why do you watch me?

I'll go first!

Most:

1) The way I show form with shading and highlighting; how things usually look somewhat three dimensional and like they have weight to them.

2) The way I use color, particularly how I use colors other than darker and lighter values of the base color to shade/highlight.

3) Most things I draw look well-constructed even if the anatomy's completely BS'd (but I've getting better about that lately).

4) The way I draw eyes and certain textures.

Least:

1) There is very little variety in my art

2) I seem to be incapable of coming up with my own original characters and creatures.

3) I couldn't draw a dynamic pose to save my life, so nearly everything I draw looks stiff and lifeless.

4) I tend to halfass backgrounds and things like feet and hands.

5) I know how to draw dragon heads/faces from just about every angle, but always seem to draw them from some bizarre slightly top-down 4/5 perspective.

6) My art is very bland and unimaginative for some reason.

I know this is incredibly narcissistic, but I've been meaning to make an entry like this for a long time now and I could really use the feedback.

I don't think so at all, aren't you being a little hard on yourself?

Personally I think your art is creative and atleast does have poses in it. I think my art on the other hand has little variety and I don't even do backgrounds much, I don't even have any drawings in my gallery with dynamic poses (which I really need to practice with because everytime I try it turn out horrrible...)
:iconcawfee:
Most:

1)
Eyes and expressions. You manage vivid and active facial features that go well with the characters at hand.

2)
General color use and choice. Always very aesthetically pleasing.

3)
Varying styles. You actually have a whole range of styles that each employ minor changes and unique attributes, and they're all quite refined. Keeps it interesting.

Least:

1)
Agreed with the lack of movement and dynamic poses. If you can pull off with bodies what you do for faces, that'd be amazing.

2)
Sometimes your backgrounds are very well refined, but a bit bland nonetheless. They take a lot of work but don't result in anything that makes up for all the work invested. More use of depth and sharpening / distance blur could help spice things up.

3)
STOP BEING SUCH A HARDASS ON YOURSELF. Seriously. Your work is amazing, albeit not perfect, so stop beating yourself down at any chance possible.

Most:
1) Your subject matter. I just like dragons. *shrug*
2) Your general style of anatomy - it always seems plausible and proportioned; though I know they're fantastic creatures, they always have a plausible figure.
3) Your choice of colors is phenomenol. It's always very well-coordinated and pleasing to the eye.
4) Your use of both dark and light. You've made both bright and cheery pictures as well as stunning ones in darker light.

Least:
1) Expressions. Your characters do seem kind of lifeless, and there's some zest that lacks here. I don't know what it is precisely, but I hope you get what I'm talking about. I'm definitely having issues with it myself.
2) Attitude. :/ You're way better than you let yourself believe. There's room for improvement, but you're pretty darn awesome.

:icongwydd:
I don't think it's the facial expressions so much as the incredibly static poses that I seem to be stuck drawing that make the things I draw appear lifeless. I think drawing actual dynamic poses is probably the biggest thing I have to work on.

MOST
-I've always admired your skillz with coloring. You can shade well, make textures and use lighting and overall it makes your pictures realistic and pleasing to the eye
-A lot of your drawings exhibit great expressions. Whether your subject is going 8D or :E or even WTF You can portray it to the viewer well.
-The anatomy of your subject matter is always very accurate...or at least accurate looking :3
-The designs of your dragons or creatures are very creative in my opinion. I never would of thought of a pangochoke...
-You're versatile! You can do traditional art as well as digital and you're talented at both! Not only can you paint in both media, but you can do scratchboard, quite nicely in fact.

LEAST
-Poses! You've been getting better about your poses lately but I think you should experiment more with perspective and angles..they make a pose a lot more interesting :D
-Backgrounds...Usually when I look at your art I always notice that the background has a lot less effort put into it compared to the subject
-Your art always seems to always have one subject...Since you always talk about making your art more interesting, how bout having interaction between 2 or more subjects like in your Auad series.
-Like they say, you're your own worst critic and when it comes to you..boy are you hard on yourself. You're an amazing artist with so much talent. ACCEPT IT.

so i feel like i just repeated everything everyone else said. I hope i was helpful!
